Courtney Kornblum
Courtney received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Arts degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences from The George Washington University. Courtney has extensive experience working with children and adolescents with a variety of diagnoses and communication differences including ADHD, apraxia of speech, articulation and phonological disorders, auditory processing difficulties, autism spectrum disorders, developmental delays, dyslexia, executive functioning difficulties, feeding difficulties, fluency disorders, language based learning disabilities, language delays and disorders, oral rehabilitation, pragmatic language and social communication difficulties.
Courtney's work as a Speech Language Pathologist is child-centered. She deeply understands the needs of diverse learners and takes on a strengths-based approach when working with any child. She is thoughtful and practical in her approach to screenings, evaluations, treatment and consultations. Courtney deeply values collaboration with parents and the entire interdisciplinary team to meet the individualized academic, social-emotional and learning needs of all children.
During her tenure, Courtney has worked in various private practice and school-based settings. She has a keen interest in sharing her love of learning with other professionals in the field. Courtney has spoken at conferences including multiple American Speech-Language Association conferences, the Social Thinking Providers Conference, and various school-based settings. When conducting in-services, workshops or trainings, Courtney's particular strengths include providing practical, concrete, and hands-on tools or strategies that professionals can immediately implement with their caseload. She supervised a Speech Language Pathology team at The Parkside School in New York City for over five years as well as many graduate students during their externships.
Courtney is a published author. In 2016, in conjunction with a collaborative, interdisciplinary team, Courtney co-authored the curriculum, Conversation Club: Teaching children with autism spectrum disorder and other social cognition challenges to engage in successful conversations with peers. The manual and corresponding storybooks aim to teach children with social language differences the importance of conversation and hands-on ways to engage in successful conversations with their peers.
In her spare time, Courtney enjoys spending time at the beach, traveling, exploring new restaurants, talking about her favorite new podcast, book, or show, creating something artistic, listening to live music, and venturing out on all sorts of adventures with her family.
Courtney currently resides in Connecticut. She holds an ASHA certification, Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities-Professional Certificate, and current licensure in the states of California, Connecticut, New York and Hawaii. Courtney works both in person and via teletherapy.
